Muda Paris, a project, a story

If you’ve known Muda Paris since 2022, our story really begins 10 years earlier. Indeed, it was in 2012 that we met, on the benches of the school. “We” are Tarik and Sami, and since the end of our higher education studies, we’ve formed a real team around our project: Muda Paris. Why don’t we tell you our story?

Who’s behind Muda Paris?

We form a duo that complements each other well, thanks to our respective backgrounds and characters. For us, working together is a real opportunity! We’re friends, which means we know each other’s temperaments, limits and ways of working. Friendship also brings with it trust in others, a quality not to be underestimated!

How did the Muda Paris project come about?

We’re both of Moroccan origin. One is from Oujda, the other from Nador. We both realized that, despite the Moroccan diaspora’s strong presence in France, finding quality traditional clothing was very difficult.

Many entrepreneurial adventures begin this way. We feel the need for a product, so we fill the gap. Muda Paris is no exception. When we feel the lack of genuine traditional Moroccan outfits in France, it’s surely because other people feel this void too.

So we did! And to say the least, we were far from alone!

What does “Muda Paris” mean?

Muda Paris is a name that embodies our attraction to clothing, Muda meaning “fashion” in Arabic and Paris, the place where our adventure began. Paris, the capital of fashion, but also of luxury.

So from Paris to Morocco, it’s “just a step”. Every piece we design reflects the elegance and richness of Arab culture. At Muda Paris, we merge these two worlds to bring you unique and sophisticated garments.

A long-standing attachment

From a very early age, we naturally developed a fondness for Moroccan craftsmanship, particularly clothing. These traditional outfits even take us back to our summer vacations as children.

The trip to Morocco was a moment we looked forward to all year. We’d spend several days on the road, the car loaded with gifts, ready for an unforgettable summer. The days were punctuated by highlights with family, friends and neighbors.

Then, at the end of the vacations, we’d go home stripped of the gifts we’d brought back, but loaded with memories, especially of traditional outfits. We stocked up on gandouras and djellabas for the whole year, outfits we could wear with pride.

If our children’s eyes were filled with wonder at all these splendid landscapes, it goes without saying that our adult eyes, focused on all the cultural richness of Morocco, think no less.

Quality traditional outfits

In a context of hyper-globalization, it was only to be expected that traditional Moroccan outfits would appear on the market, at least in appearance, but manufactured in the 4 corners of the world. Indeed, while globalization obviously affects trade, it also affects culture.

Like everyone else, we witnessed the attraction of Chinese clothing, costing three times nothing. But it didn’t take long for the hype to die down. Beyond the unbeatable price, we couldn’t help but notice the weaknesses in quality and ethics.

For our part, we prefer to consume less, but consume better. The charm of a gandoura or jabador lies not only in its design, but also in the quality of its finish, its history and the hands through which it has passed.

The production of traditional outfits cannot be improvised. Some pieces cannot be reproduced by machines, putting the spotlight even more on the work of real craftsmen. That’s what our project is all about.

Muda Paris, a link between Morocco and France

What we imagined for Muda Paris was 100% Moroccan production, with workshops on site. In fact, we’ve developed very fraternal ties with them.

The idea was to be in the heart of Morocco, to offer traditional outfits and keep the know-how of these craftsmen alive.

Muda Paris is also an opportunity for people of all origins to discover and wear traditional Moroccan outfits. In this way, the expertise of the artisans we work with shines beyond our borders.

Our outfits are worn by people of all origins and nationalities, and that’s what makes us proud.
